About EMJJA
EMJJA is a Japanese Martial Arts group that formed in 1991 by Professor John Rake where it has had clubs all over the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire areas.

What is Jiu-Jitsu
Jiu-jitsu is a family of Japanese martial arts.
It consist of close combat that can be used both defensively
and offensively to subdue or defeat opponents.
Blocking
This is used in jiu-jitsu to protect form various kicks and punches.
Locks
There are different locks for different parts of the body, these include neck, shoulder, spine, arm, wrist, finger and leg.
Chokes
These can be used from the front, side and rear. These are mainly used for grading purposes only.
Striking
There are various techniques using different parts of the body i.e. fist, elbow, knee and foot.
Throws
These are used to to unbalance your opponent, Along side the throws, breakfalls are learnt, this is the technique of landing when thrown to avoid injury. Immobilisation holds. These are used on different parts of the body. When applied correctly your opponent is unable to move. This technique is used as a form of
restraint.
Weapons
Weapons are mainly taught to students
16 years and above. These techniques are for defence purposes only. Weapons used are: knife, gun, bow, club, te-bo, Uwara-bo.
I believe I still hold the world record for smashing 100 tiles on fire at Wingerworth show in 1986.
